I had the pleasure of attending the TIFF 2018 Essentials Lounge. Where you guessed it; you could find all of the essentials needed to survive TIFF 2018! There were so many of my favourite brands represented here and even learnt something new about a brand’s history that blew me away. Here’s a quick recap of all the essentials for TIFF that I’ve tested during and since TIFF week and can vouch as must-haves.

When you’re missing the usual beauty sleep and not drinking enough water, or just randomly in need of a face detox, this mask is a quick pick me up for your skin! I love that this mask is actually designed for both men and women. The packaging is also inviting for both. I am legitimately at this moment using the GlamGlow mask, and I love how it instantly makes your skin feel fresh! I’ve put my skin through a lot this week and I really needed to pull out all of that congestion. This super mud has activated X charcoal in it, along with an absorbent carbon to attract toxins and dirt from the deepest and toughest areas. I just washed my face, and right away I see my pores are less visible, skin is brighter and feels smoother. Ah! I love it! Retail: $75.00 (Sephora or Shoppers Drug Mart)

For those long days with little to none moments to touch up or re-do your make-up, you need something long-lasting. This Smashbox foundation has a 15-hour stay and it’s hydrating so perfect for the colder months in Toronto when the wind sucks the hydration out of your skin. Studio Skin 15 Hour Hydrating Foundation is at Sephora for $46.00.

KEDS FOR TIFF
I’ve been wearing my classic leather Keds non-stop! They’re so comfortable and this is the company I’ve been telling you all about and how blown away I am with their history. Okay, first of all, did you know that they actually go all out to make their shoes for women. They make sure that every shoe will be comfortable to wear and don’t use a “unisex template”. It’s only specific to women. I remember when I bought my first pair of Keds, that it hugged my feet like no other shoe. Also, had no idea they were founded in 1916! As you all know, I’m a fact nerd so I was amazed that they’re 102 years old. They also have A LOT of women in their upper management across all of their head offices.
I have the classic leather champion sneaker in white and I LOVE it. If there’s a shoe that will go with any of your outfits, it’s this way. It retails for about $70.00 and will honestly be your favourite go-to kicks.

DESIGN.ME HAIR
I’ve been using a lot of their products for a while now. One of my favourites is the puff me and the hairspray with the ability to control the spray from light to high. They have some awesome new products! A dry shampoo in a generous size. Not the usual skinny bottles.
QUICKIE.ME DRY SHAMPOO: The Quickie.ME Dry Shampoo Spray comes with two options; one forBlonde & Pastel tones and one for Brunette & Darker tones. In addition to the spray, Design.ME Hair is also launching the all-new Quickie.ME Dry Shampoo Foam, ideal for use as a hair refresher. Retails for $22.00.
If you haven’t noticed I am an avid user of Fresh Beauty products, and to be more specific; I am currently loving the Peony line by Fresh Beauty. After using both products for quite some time, I HAVE to share the details about the peony mask and the peony cleanser. (Both found at Sephora.)
Fresh: Peony Mask and Cleanser Review
Alright, the cleanser smells like peonies! It literally feels like I am washing my face with peonies. LOVE it! The only thing I don’t like is that it doesn’t remove make-up really well. My skin looked brighter in the morning, softer and I noticed because of the smoother brighter skin, my makeup looked really good! It retails for $56 CAD.
The peony brightening mask is very different from the usual masks that I’ve bought in the past. I tend to lean towards clay masks. This one literally feels like a yoghurt (depending on how thick you lay it). This is an overnight mask that you can wash off in the morning. So you apply a thin layer and then just sleep with it. It preserves hydration for 24 hours, which is why the next day my skin felt super supple and soft! It’s a little expensive for a mask ($99 CAD) but totally worth it! Especially since you don’t need a lot of it for each use, this will last you for months.
This mask is for all skin types and is paraben, sulfates free. According to the packaging, it brightens, diminishes the look of uneven skin tone, and preserves hydration for up to 24 hours.Which means it’s an excellent solution for those who have dull looking skin, dark spots, dryness, and uneven skin tone.
Would I buy these products again? I would definitely get the mask but not sure if I’d get the cleanser. Only because I do like a dual purpose cleanser for days when I feel lazy to remove makeup. Having said that, if you don’t wear make-up or a lot of it and have a great routine already set for removal, then you’ll love this cleanser.
This year we went to the CNE with both of our children. It was a totally different experience compared to the last time we went. We spent our entire half of the day on the side where the kid midway rides were. There were places on this side I had no idea even existed at CNE. Which is also why I was inspired to share my top 8 things to do at the CNE with kids! Although today is the last day to attend the CNE, save this for next summer and plan out your day ahead of time!
Reptilia – This is an exhibit that has more than one daily show about reptiles. We watched the snake show and Baby D loved the interactive part of the show. Children get to pet the reptiles and after the show, there’s a Q&A period, while you pet the reptiles. On average for something like this, it’s $7/child. I know this because we had animals at Baby D’s birthday (twice). At the CNE it’s FREE. (Found at the Kids’ World Park area).
Kids Center – What I wish I knew about the last time we went with Baby D, was this center where you can change diapers. If you have more than one child, you have an entire room shared with other parents to change your child’s diaper. There’s a movie playing and lots of toys for kids to play with. Also in case you’ve run out of diapers, they have every size at this center, along with wipes and other baby items. After changing diapers we were here accidentally for about 20 minutes. They just didn’t want to leave!
Top 8 Things To Do at the CNE with Kids – A Guide to keeping them Entertained
Kids’ World Park – It’s just a regular park area, with your standard swings and such but what makes it fun for kids is that it’s in the center of all the fun stuff for them. There’s also a stage nearby where all the shows happen. You’ll find the reptilia mobile on one side, and the kid center, workshops and more on the other. Oh, and the midway rides are very close by. So you can make this your meeting station for older kids and a place for your kids to burn off energy before you sit down for lunch/dinner.
Midway Rides – I didn’t think there would be good rides for my 3-year-old toddler to ride but boy was I wrong! He went on his first roller coaster (dragon midway ride) and there’s always the classics, train, carousel, tea cups etc.
Farm Animals – There are about farmyard yard animals at the CNE for kids to enjoy watching. Cows, goats, and sheep to name a few! People also get to pretend they’re farmers by picking apples off a tree, collecting eggs from the chickens and more.
Toddler Center – The toddler center may change every year based on who is sponsoring the room. This year half the room was sponsored by Air Transit; with a make-believe airplane and stairs going up to it. You could sit at the front and be the pilot or be a passenger in the seats behind it. The seats are big enough for adults to sit on. There’s a slide to come down.
FUN ACTIVITIES AT THE CNE FOR KIDS
Pizza Nova Pizza Making Workshop – They have many classes throughout the day. You get to learn how to make pizza by the pizza nova professionals and then you get to eat it too! Awesome workshop to do with your kids.
Art Studio – At this studio kids get to paint, make things out of clay and more!Overall, I’d say that the admission for CNE gives you a lot more bang for your buck than most people know. I highly recommend to get their early, have a plan before you go and bring family with you if possible. You can have your toddler/babies play in that kid area for hours with a family member supervising while you go to the other side and play some CNE games or go on rides. Or stick around with them and plan out your day so you see all the shows and do all the workshops with your little ones. Excited for next summer!
Niagara Falls has been a getaway from my routine Toronto life for years. I’ve gone countless times as a child, with friends, as a newlywed and now as a mother of 2. Every time I’ve been, there’s one thing we always do that is something new. Whether it is as simple as eating somewhere different or as fun as trying out an attraction. The last time my husband and I went to Niagara Falls with our little ones was a year ago, on Canada Day weekend; Canada’s 150th birthday. We had the pleasure of going with GO Transitthis time, as opposed to driving and here are my top 3 reasons why you should take the GO Train to Niagara Falls before the season is over:
1. No Traffic. The GO Train will get you there without having to deal with car traffic, road closures or accidents. You’re also being greener by doing so, fewer emissions into our environment. It was super convenient to get to Niagara Falls in 2 hours! Could be less depending on where you get on from. We got on from Port Credit.
2. Children are happy. Sitting in a car seat for consecutive hours is not fun. Some children get cranky, they cry and you will probably have to stop a couple of times to entertain them. On the GO Train, we were able to park our stroller facing our seats on our way to Niagara Falls. We easily entertained them with songs, books, a tablet and even took a little walk.
3. Price. The Niagara Falls GO service runs from Union Station in Toronto to Niagara; $30 round trip. Also, if you’re bringing bikes, there are designated carts for bikes. We actually sat in a cart for bikes, all to ourselves on our trip back. The price covers your round-trip GO Train fare plus a connecting WEGO bus pass that you can use for the weekend. Having transit covered via your WEGO bus pass made a huge difference in getting from one attraction to the other within Niagara. The bus service was fast and we were always able to get a seat.
A Fun Family Trip to Niagara Falls with GO Transit
We took the GO Train on Friday night and got on the WEGO bus to the hotel. Some of you asked me on Instagram stories whether it was hard getting on the WEGO bus with a luggage, stroller, and 2 kids. To be honest, no. We had done this in Japan with both kids when we were using the trains, so I guess we’ve found what works. Luggage and bags are with my husband, I assist when I can and I have one kid on my hip while holding the other’s hand. When there’s a will, there’s a way!
WHERE TO EAT AT NIAGARA FALLS
This was the view from our table at the Elements on the Falls restaurant
If you’re looking for a quick bite, there are many places to eat! The options are endless. If you’re looking for authentic Italian pizza, check out Antica. There’s also a great firework viewing area right across the street from here. (see my IG story highlights). For lunch, on Saturday we went to Elements on The Falls. What an experience!
We had an amazing view from the window of the Falls, the service was impeccable and the food was delicious! They brought crayons and paper for the children, along with closed cups with straws. And yes, they have high chairs and a changing area in the washroom. Here’s what he had, read captions for food details:
This waffle veggie sandwich is a cold sandwich with eggplant, brie, zucchini, tomato, and lettuce.Chocolate Mousse
For dinner, we went to the Queen Victoria Place Restaurant. The views are incredible here as well, and the food is great! Around 8-9pm, the live music starts and you can hear it from this restaurant and also see the light show on the Falls.
The ADVENTURE PASS: NIAGARA PARKS ATTRACTIONS
Majority of the times we went to Niagara Falls, we spent more time just walking up and down the streets to different stores, the casino, arcades etc. Only the last time we went with our kids did we check out the Bird Kingdom and we loved it! So this time we made sure we experienced more attractions. Especially with children, they get to learn so much. I highly recommend you get an adventure pass. You get to pick from all the attractions you’d like to go too. There are so many to choose from. We went with the White Water Walk, Whirlpool Aero Car, and the Butterfly Conservatory.
WHITE WATER WALK
I was blown away to learn that almost 70% of you had not been to theWhite Water Walkand now are planning to go! It was my first time along with my husband’s and we were both in awe at how incredible it looked up close. Class 6 white-water rapids are hypnotizing when you’re walking that close to them. Our children were in awe at how fast the water was going and Baby D had a ton of questions to go with his admiration.
WHIRLPOOL AERO CAR
At first glance I was scared. Especially after I was told that we couldn’t bring our stroller on board the aero car.My plan was to buckle them in. But let me tell you, worried for nothing. First of all, they had a designated safe area for strollers, and the cart had an area for adults holding children, it was fenced in the middle of the cart, away from the edge. Totally safe and went at a very safe speed as well. Basically slow, which was great for pictures! The attendant who spoke about the whirlpool and rapids was really friendly and even took pictures for people on the cart.
THE BUTTERFLY CONSERVATORY
The Butterfly Conservatory – Niagara Parks
For almost a month now Baby D had been obsessed with butterflies and saying he wanted to catch one. So going to this attraction couldn’t have come at a better time. He was ecstatic to be there! He listened attentively to the introduction video at the beginning of the attraction. (Make sure you do, because they will be giving tips on how to be gentle with the butterflies and to watch out for them sitting on the floor.) There are over 2,000 butterflies, made up of 45 different species here! Before entering the conservatory, or after you exit, there is an area with table and chairs for children to sit down and colour or to have their snacks. Also, some informational exhibits about bugs. Our kids spent a lot of time here, just running around looking at each one.
And that’s a wrap! What an awesome weekend. My family and I love that GO Transit offers a $30 round trip service to Niagara, and I’ve already inspired family and many of you to go! To see everything I mentioned above in action, check out my Instagram highlights under Niagara for videos. Tag me, (@HumJK) on Instagram. I would love to share your trip to Niagara on my stories. Can’t wait to see you all having fun at Niagara Falls!

July Favourites – Unique Kit Kat Flavours, Vichy, Henne Organics & MORE!
Vichy – Their products have always been one of my favourites. Ever since my acne skin prone skin days, I would use Normaderm. It saved my life! The Aqualia line has evolved over the years. With this new formula, your thirsty skin will love you! Packed with minerals, hyaluronic acid, mineralizing water and more. I used both products for a couple of weeks – the serum and day cream. I love the day cream/moisturizer. It absorbs into the skin really well and I felt my skin get softer from the instant hydration right away.
Winky-Lux – Seen all over Instagram and Pinterest, this lipstick is unique! Some have flowers in them, or this one has sparkles.
Elizabeth Arden – Having this serum in capsules takes the guesswork out of how much product we should use with each application. Especially because it has retinol.
Kit Kat – Can I tell you how obsessed I was with all of the flavours of Kit Kat in Japan! I bought so many to take back with me and I haven’t finished them yet. The goji berry and sweet potato flavour are my favourites so far. Matcha is alright, but we can get that here in Canada.
Nuxe – I love this dry oil! It’s a multi-purpose oil you can use on your face, body, in your hair (especially for the dry ends) and cuticles.
Blue Mer – Also, bought this hand cream from Korea, or maybe it was Japan. I can’t remember now but it is available at The Face Shop. Not sure if this specific one is here in Canada, but it is honestly the best smelling and most moisturizing hand cream I’ve had. So next time you’re shopping at The Face Shop, definitely pick one of these up. They’re SO good!
Filorga – A 2 step program for growing lush eyebrows and lashes. I used this for a month and noticed results. Nothing too crazy, but enough to make it to my faves!
Rodial Beauty – This lip crayon goes on like suede. Hence the name, suede lips.
9. Henne – Founded in 2015 this product line has products that are 99% organic.
How can a business prepare for social media fame? Last night I found out that Bogle Seeds Farm is closed forever. This makes me really sad because we had such a great time when we were there. The way I found out was actually a rude comment under my Instagram picture. The person had written something along the lines as “Are you happy now? And a link to a Globe and Mail article. Which you can read here.
How To Prepare For Social Media Fame For Businesses
First of all, that is a very big assumption to make from one picture. Pooling everyone into one bucket without any proof of whether that is my stance of what happened, it is not fair. But I get it, the internet has a lot of trolls out there and being an influencer you have to be ready for it. I deleted the comment because I don’t put up with any kind of negativity on my accounts. I don’t reply to negative comments and leave them on my platforms for people to view and hold that negativity in their minds.
If someone has a problem, the direct messaging or email option is there for them, and I will always reply back. P.S This person had left the same comment on all geotagged images on Instagram from Bogle Seeds Farm. Having said that, I thought about what happened to Bogle Seeds Farm and feel really bad for them. I was actually there with my family on Saturday when everything happened.
We left right away when we noticed it was getting too crazy. And also didn’t stay long to get “the perfect shot”. We took a total of 10 pictures, which out of the 10, 3 pictures came out beautiful. So that should give you an idea of how long we were there. We also didn’t go into the field, to avoid disturbing the flowers. I’ve grown sunflowers in our yard, and have three growing right now, so I know how sensitive they can be.
I had posted in my first image that people were cheating and going through the sidelines and not paying the entrance fee. I also suggested the smaller farm beside Bogle Seeds that was taking donations for ALS as an entrance fee to take pictures. In my comments, I went even further to suggest other places that my followers had suggested. When we had found out the farm was “temporarily closed”. See both posts here:
As a Social Media Marketing professional, I have some suggestions so that this doesn’t happen again to anyone else:
SOCIAL MEDIA: If you are a business opening to the public, have a social media presence so you can keep track of the amount of coverage your business is getting. This will prepare you for busier than normal days. Ex. If you see 3-4 influencers who have posted about your business who have a total reach of 60k following, that should be an alarm that the coming days could get busy. Also, if you cannot create an account, then simply watching geotags will also give you as a business owner some insight. I noticed there were quite a few posts as well on large media outlets about the farm before Saturday. Doing a google search would also give business owners an idea of any websites referencing your business. Social media fame can sneak up on you really fast! Sometimes there is no time to be prepared, but thinking ahead of your social media presence can help for the long term as well.
“Experts predict that by 2018, the number of worldwide smartphone users will exceed 2.5 billion. There is no denying it: much of our lives are now mobile! In fact, the average person spends more than 4 hours per day on a mobile device texting, browsing social media, checking email, and more.” – Forbes Magazine
SELL TICKETS: For locations that are smaller or you have sensitive products, it’s best to sell tickets ahead of time. Even sell them in time slots. Online, or at the door.
MANPOWER AND SIGNAGE: All hands on deck or on standby. When we were at the farm, we walked from one end of the farm to the entrance to get to it. I didn’t see any no trespassing signs, no yellow tape, or fencing to stop people from going into the fields without paying the entrance fee. No people either to give any direction. I understand it can be costly for smaller businesses to organize that, but there are volunteer options and simple signage can help as well.
We can all learn a lot from what happened and going forward even social media etiquette on our ends as bloggers/influencers/photographers. Check out La Petite Noob’s blog post for more information on that. Social Media Fame can come as a surprise to some businesses, especially those who don’t follow along with Marketing trends. Every business has a learning curve, trials, and errors. For a successful business, it’s best to learn from these trials and errors and have great plans set ahead for the future. There are lots of benefits to social fame as well. I can share a post in regards to that for another time.
A new season means NEW make-up! For the Quo Summer launch, I get to check out all the great goodies Quo has that’s new and in their limited edition Summer 2018 collection. For those of you who have never heard of Quo. It is a house brand for Shoppers Drug Mart. I’ve used many of their products for years and have gotten to know what are their great products and which Quo I’m not a huge fan of. I’ve been using their Wet & Dry powder foundation for years. It’s honestly my favourite. I’ve actually tried replacing it with other brands and had no luck.
8 brushes for $60.00
I have also noticed that not all of their makeup brushes are good. I’ve actually tried every single one as a make-up artist and know exactly which ones fall apart quickly (brush hairs falling). The foundation and concealer brushes are great. However, the Powder and blush brushes are terrible. But if you ever see any limited edition makeup brush sets, make sure you snag those. Because they’re usually awesome and you still get the house brand price of course. You’ll be happy to know that the Quo Summer 2018 collection has some pretty cool makeup brushes (metallic design) and the makeup bag it comes with is so nice that you’ll want to use it every day.
Quo Illuminating Drops $20.00
These illuminating drops are perfect to use by themselves or add a few drops to your foundation and apply!
Quo – What’s New & Summer 2018 Collection at
Shoppers Drug MarT
Quo Lip Gloss $10.00
Quo Eye Cream $10.00
Quo Face Palette – In cool and warm tones – $20.00 Highlighter, Bronzer & Blush
Other than the summer collection see above, there are also some new basic products that you shop for at Shoppers Drug Mart. Keep an eye out for the below items:
The sunscreen is for $12.99
I love the selection of face masks Shoppers Drug Mart has!
Life Brand has their own sunscreen, SPF 30. Cute Quo Summer make-up bags, you know I’m obsessed with the rose gold.
(seen above). The lip scrub is still being used. And make-up wipes, I have yet to find out that why they’re so good. The rose gold 3 piece purse set is $18.99
During my pregnancies, I had the worse case of itchiness and to make matters worse the paranoia that I’d get terrible stretch marks from all of the scratching I was doing. I tried so many different products during this time and one of the products that worked for me was Palmer’s body lotion. Honestly, it was a lifesaver! I don’t know anyone who actually hasn’t tried it. Recommended by many bloggers and mommy/baby sites, you’ll find their line of skincare, simple and effective. Great news! They have a new coconut oil formula that you’re going to obsess over!
5 benefits of using Palmer’s NEW Coconut Oil Formula:
There are 4 amazing key ingredients; raw coconut oil, Tahitian Monoi, Sweet Almond Oil and Vitamin E
Free of parabens, sulfates, Phthalates, Mineral Oil, Gluten, and Dyes
24-hour moisture
Contains Ethically and Sustainably Sourced Ingredients
A dewy glow finish
I love the way it feels on my skin, and it smells amazing! If you’re a coconut fan, then you’ll definitely obsess over the coconut scent. The body lotion absorbs well into the skin, no oily finish. Just enough to give your skin a boost of radiance. The formula has also been infused with Tiaré flower petals! It contains high levels of naturally occurring fatty acids and proteins that are essential in keeping skin radiant and healthy looking.
The body oil has Grape Seed oil, Macadamia, and Argan Oil. It’s a non-greasy oil that won’t transfer to clothes. I love using this on the bridge of my legs, collarbone and/or arms for that extra sheen when going out. Plus it’s an instant hydration boost. The Coconut Oil Formulaproducts drench your skin with decadently rich moisture for dewy, radiant skin that looks lit from within. Definitely, a must have!
It’s the official first day of Summer and June is coming to an end! I’m getting an early start on sharing my June beauty favourites with you guys and I hope we share the love for these products. And if we don’t, that’s okay too. Having said that, I have been having the worse breakout from using a new foundation from MAC that I just can’t stop using. I don’t know if it’s my guilt of having it go to waste or if I just have too much of easy access to it in my makeup bag. I need to move it out of arms reach. Currently, I am using a mix of Maybelline concealer and Dermablend foundation, so I’ll be reporting back to you on the effects of those ones on my skin.
June Beauty Favourites – Laura Mercier,

5. Stila Stay All Day Liquid Sheer – The perfect sheer shimmery bronze for the summer time! Retail $29. Bonus: it has avocado oil and vitamin e.
6. Plume Eye Brow Pomade – Nourishes your brows and defines them with 5 different shades to choose from. I’ve noticed hair growth in sparse areas of my brows since I started using this. 100% natural, vegan, cruelty-free.
7. Rodial Makeup Brush #6 has the most beautiful bristles and is perfect for baking with their loose baking powder. I’ve been using this brush on repeat! Retail: $46
I cannot even tell you how much I loved this place! Not only was it a cute place to eat but the desserts are SO good. A bloggers dream basically, marble tables, white brick, and a neon sign backdrop. You can sit and have your dessert there and people watch. Because it’s on Gungham. Where all the rich folks chill, you’ll love people watching, with all the designer shiznit they’ll be wearing it’s practically a non-stop fashion show. I would’ve loved to stay but with two todds we had to bounce and get it all to go. Love the old school paper bag they put your goods in. Make sure you go earlier during the day because evenings you’ll find very few items left. We basically took everything they had left. All their cookies, croissants and some kind of cake. Everything was delicious and finished that night. We managed to save two cookies for the next day to savor. And one of our Todd’s, baby D, found it and demolished it. Definitely going back in a couple of years to Korea and will stop by this place again. Otherwise maybe check out their other location in Cali.
This Cafe was actually one we just found out of the blue. I noticed it when we were coming out of the all-day breakfast place. You can read more about that breakfast place here. So Baby D kept asking for cake and we walk into this place and it’s best described to be like a cafe dollhouse. Super cute seating area. They have a dessert buffet style menu and then you can also purchase desserts on their own. The first time we went here we got a slice of tiramisu cake to go. They actually packed it in a pretty box with ice packs around it so it would stay fresh till eaten! A lot of places in Japan pride themselves on how fresh their food is and a lot of times won’t even allow for a “to go” option. We had to talk the places into it by telling them our hotel was next door or very close.
4. TOKYO DISNEYSEA LITTLE GREEN MEN DUMPLINGS
How cute are these alien dumplings from Toy Story! I found these guys on Instagram, saved it and when I got to Tokyo DisneySea I showed someone there the picture and they directed me to the store that was selling them. The outer layer is squishy like dumpling should be. And then the inside is filled with like a custard. One is chocolate, strawberry, and custard. The strawberry one was the worse. But that’s just my preference. Enjoy!
5. DOMINIQUE ANSEL BAKERY – TOKYO
I’ll let the below video do most of the explaining for this bakery:
6. REMICONE – SEOUL
They have cotton candy! Enough said. This place is so cute and I love the clean aesthetic. Also, the price is right!
